Blog Post #4: Meaning and Theme

Image
If my documentary is about what has impacted/influenced fashion, then there can be multiple meanings and themes. The main meaning will be that a person's self-expression comes from multiple factors. This means that whether someone creates clothing, or even just dresses a certain way, came from multiple influences such as music, social media, art, etc. Those influences are what my episodes of the documentary are about. For example, social media's impact on fashion is seen everywhere. Here are ways it has impacted the fashion industry and culture: Starts fashion trends - people such as fashion influencers and models can create fashion trends because they have such a big audience online. Increase in fast fashion but also sustainable fashion - there has been an increase in people using fast fashion brands, but there is also a trend of sustainable fashion. This is because social media allows people to share tips on sewing, secondhand clothing, and things such as diy crafts. There a...

The Tribeca Film Festival takes place in New York City. During spring, they showcase film but also things such as music, games, and art. It was founded in 2002. They are currently taking 2026 Festival Submissions. On the official website, they allow submissions of both feature films and short films. This includes documentaries, narratives, animation, experimental film, and music videos. Along with that, they linked the website telling the reader where to purchase tickets. This gives the advertisement a "cal...

It also explains how it links to other things like music, social media, and trends. They state "Both pop culture and fashion are means to creative expression. And also along with the art, music, film styles and television shows of a given age. Pop artists and media set the trends. Fashion-forward followers adopt them to emulate the actions of the creators they look up to the most." The example the author gives to show this is how Kate Middleton wore a Tory Burch dress in 2014, which ended up selling out completely. An article by The Music Trunk ( here ) has a chronological evolution of pop culture fashion trends. 1960's Trends: miniskirts, bold patterns, vibrant colors Influences: The Beatles, Twiggy Purpose: embrace individualism and break traditional norms 1970's Trends: bell-bottom pants, platform shoes, shimmer...

Some ideas I have is pop culture, designer brands, culture, politics, celebrities, and music. I can look at magazines and movies for more references. Designer brands : top brands and designers are known for starting fashion trends and influencing pop culture. I can do an episode about how these iconic brands started trends. Examples: Vivienne Westwood, Balenciaga Culture : every culture has their traditional clothing, so I have many different topics and ideas to choose from on an episode about culture. Politics : political movements and ideologies have inspired fashion subcultures. Celebrities : similar to pop culture and designer brands, famous people have always inf...
